Tasting Notes: The Villa Matilde - Falerno del Massico Bianco has a straw yellow color. A deep and elegant bouquet offers hints of ripe fruits, including pineapple, banana, yellow peach, pear, and rose blossoms. On the palate, you will taste delicate notes of sage and vanilla, mixed with a slight hint of almonds. The balanced, velvety, rich and persistent flavour displays remarkable refinement and personality.
Estate History: From 100% Falanghina of the ancient Romans ("vinum album Phalanginum") is born the Falerno del Massico Bianco DOC of Villa Matilde. In the sixties, Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer and passionate expert of antique wines, becoming curious about the stories of Plinio and the verses of Virgilio, Marziale and Orazio on Vinum Falernum, decided to bring back the legendary disappeared wine, identifying the grape varieties that had given birth to Falerno in Roman times. Few strains, which survived miraculously to the devastation of the late 19th century phylloxera, were replanted with the help of some local farmers, right in the native land of Massico, where these grapes had once prospered.
