Tasting Notes: Tenuta Prima Pietra is located on the highest hill near Riparbella, on the Tuscan coast just south of Livorno. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this has the classic energy of a great Super Tuscan, such as Sassicaia, but with a touch more freshness due to elevation and coastal influences. Prima Pietra sees 18 months in 50% new French oak, with the varieties aged separately for the first ten months before blending and aging for an additional eight. 2015 was a perfect vintage: very dry and hot in the summer followed by perfect September conditions, gifting the wine with elegant and soft tannins and a long, bright red-fruited savory finish.
