Tasting Notes: The Borgogno Nebbiolo No Name is composed of 100% Nebbiolo from an estate famous for producing exceptional Barolo since 1761. This wine delights your senses with essence of red cherries, licorice, violet roses, fresh tobacco, black tea, tar and mint. Firm tannins and crisp acidity provide a beautiful backbone to this full-bodied, generous wine that is intensely perfumed. The maker purposely declassifies some of its best estate fruit from three famous Barolo Crus for the No Name label in a protest against Italian bureaucracy.
Carefully selected grapes are macerated for about two weeks then fermented with indigenous yeast. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for a minimum of three years and in bottle for at least two years. Enjoy No Name with a grilled ribeye steak, Gorgonzola, or with a pasta dish laced with truffles. -Lyne Noella, Eataly L.A.
Estate History: Since 1761, Borgogno is one of the most historical wineries in Barolo. The underground cellars continue to represent a rare historical memory of the Langa to this day, and the wines are made according to tradition: long spontaneous fermentations in concrete tanks without the use of selected yeasts, and long periods of ageing, strictly in large Slavonian oak barrels. The vineyards are located in Barolo, Madonna di Como and in the Colli Tortonesi without the use of chemical fertilizers or herbicides, and practice only eco-friendly treatments. Organic certification will come with the 2019 harvest.
